Im a strong supporter of a consumer society. ^I understand this forum doesn't promote piracy in any way or form.
I could name a few software compressors much better than Waves. there are other companies that make better sounding plugs depending on the tool. Waves isn't even necessarily the best out.
learn how to mix first before even thinking about a Waves bundle. you'll now have to find the answer to your questions on your own. The type of person that buys Waves doesn't ask this type of question, b/c they are more seasoned. so this forum isn't going to give you direct help. It's pretty clearcut that you didn't buy the Waves bundle. You have think you have good intentions, (yet you're stealing software b/c it's so easily available). You heard Waves was the real deal from a friend. you're a college student just starting out and you want to learn how to mix & master. It's kind of disrespectful to seek knowledge from somebody who paid for their software, when you yourself did not. you're going to get answers like the one above. when it becomes obvious that somebody is asking for help to use pirated software. Most users here actually pay for their software. It's one of the few forums out there where the users actually uphold the integrity of the board. This forum doesn't provide support for users who pirate software. I was just asking if there were any good sources to better help me understand what im trying to work with. I know the basics of compressors, reverbs, limiters, etc. Thanks for the tip though, ill definitely look into PUREMIX. Are you telling me thats a big waste of money? I'd like to call it investing, and who knows, maybe I will intern at a studio after im done studying what im studying right now. I was clueless of what I was buying and getting into when I made my first production purchase (FL Studio 8XXL & my Akai MPK 49). I asked for some help, if you think im not going to be able to find some online materials that will help me, then thanks thats all you have to say. Im not sure I asked how I I should be spending my money anyways. Lets say I have alot of money to blow right now, sales have been good, and I have been saving up. But i'd like to get a GOOD grasp of the criteria most mastering engineers know. Yea, maybe your right though, Ill never be a mastering engineer. Lol.not the exact answer I was looking for, but thanks for the Mixing reference.
That will take you much further than asking about how to use illegal software. Go to PUREMIX and actually invest in some knowledge. No one buys it without knowing how to use it already. Either you stole it or you have more money than sense. So don't come here asking advice about the Mercury bundle.
99% of all professional mixing and mastering can be done with those things. Here is the best advice, go out and BUY a decent eq, compressor, reverb, and limiter and learn them perfect. The Mercury bundle is for fixing very specific problems that rarely happen. Not asking about the biggest waste of money. Otherwise you would be in school or interning at a studio. Let's face it, you will never be a mastering engineer. It takes years and years of knowledge and work. You will not be a mastering engineer just because you learn how to use the Mercury Bundle. Some of the plugins you would probably use about 1% of the time. Why do you want to master the Waves plugs anyways? They are specialist tools for career engineers. Why would you "spend" $7,000 on something you have no clue how to use. Its overwhelming to think that different compressors and reverbs have small characters that make them different than other similar compressors and reverbs. I know Waves official site has a broad and general list of introductory tutorials regarding some of the plugins included in their packages, but I want to dig deeper than this. Any book, tutorial, series, or courses you guys recommend is appreciated.
Are there any tutorials or books that help in learning exactly what these plugins do and how to use them? Are there any online courses? Im already a full time university student, we don't have many music engineering courses that aren't exclusive to grad students. I am semi familiar with alot of the tools as they are universal, but I want to master the Waves bundle as far as mastering my projects go. How should I go about learning Waves Bundles? It seems kind of overwhelming since there are so many plugins that come in the package. I am starting to really get into mastering and want to master it as a practice. I made a similar post to this in the tutorials section, but wanted to ask members around this part of the forum for their advice as well.
